SOUTH ROYALTON LEGAL CLINIC HONORS JUSTICE JOHNSON

June 12, 2014

The South Royalton Legal Clinic hosted a reception and plaque dedication honoring retired Vermont Supreme Court Associate Justice Denise Johnson. The dedication is made possible by the Justice Denise Johnson Tribute Committee and generous supporters, who raised $25,000 to create a lasting tribute to Johnson's work.
 

TWO VERMONT LAW STUDENTS AWARDED INTERNSHIP FUNDS FOR ENERGY WORK

May 6, 2014

Daniel W. Nugent ’15 and Jonathan Hart ’14 are the 2014 recipients of the Glenn J. Berger ’78 and Rachel S. Cox Internship Fund, which was created to provide financial support, specifically for internships, to Vermont Law School students serving as research associates at VLS's Institute for Energy and the Environment. The awards will support the students’ summer 2014 internships at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the California Center for Sustainable Energy, respectively.
 

USDA AWARDS $500,000 TO VERMONT LAW FOR FARMERS MARKET PROJECT

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded the Center for Agriculture and Food Systems (CAFS) at Vermont Law School and the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT) a $500,000 grant to strengthen farmers’ market organizations through legal education.
 

VT LAW RECEIVES $500,000 ANONYMOUS GIFT

Given by a trustee who wishes to remain anonymous, the unrestricted gift may be used to support any number of programs and initiatives at the school, from leadership and faculty development to scholarships.
 

USAID AWARDS $700,000 TO VERMONT LAW FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

March 7, 2014

The U.S. Agency for International Development has awarded the U.S.-China Partnership for Environmental Law at Vermont Law School a $700,000 grant extension, increasing the total grant award to $6.8 million and enabling the partnership to expand its programs in Southeast Asis through September 2015.
 

1.5 MILLION DOLLAR GIFT TO SUPPORT ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM

September 23, 2013

Alumnus James "Jimmy" Hanson JD'83, who has been a Trustee of Vermont Law since 2005, has pledged $1.5 million to support the law school's environmental program. His gift will strengthen the school's top-ranked program in environmental law and policy through creation of a leadership curriculum, expansion of the master's degree program, and support for the research centers and institutes of our Environmental Law Center.
 

VLS RECIEVES $300K GRANT TO SUPPORT ENVIRONMENTAL REFORM IN MYANMAR

December 11, 2012

The U.S.-China Partnership at Vermont Law School has received a one-year, $300,000 grant from the Virginia-based blue moon fund. The grant will support environmental governance training and education in Myanmar as the nation prepares for considerable foreign investment following President Obama's historic visit this November.
 

VERMONT LAW SCHOOL RECEIVES $1.5 MILLION GRANT TO CREATE "LEGAL ECOSYSTEM" IN SOUTHWEST CHINA

Vermont Law School has received a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. State Department to support a three-year project designed to improve environmental and public health in China.
 

FIERTZ FAMILY DONATES $100,000 TO VLS FOR POVERTY LAW SERVICES

Alden Fiertz has given $100,000 to strengthen the social justice partnership between Vermont Law School's South Royalton Legal Clinic (SRLC) and the Upper Valley Haven, which provide a range of legal, housing, food and other services to needy families.
 

VERMONT LAW SCHOOL RAISES RECORD $18.4 MILLION IN CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

The three-year campaign, which ended June 30, raised $18.4 million, surpassing the goal of $15 million by more than 20 percent. The money will contribute to a wide range of projects, many directly supporting VLS's top-ranked environmental program and its top-tier clinical programs.
 

NEW CLINICAL BUILDING TO IMPROVE FREE LEGAL SERVICES FOR PUBLIC

The 14,700-square-foot facility will enable the South Royalton Legal Clinic (SRLC) and the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Clinic (ENRLC) to serve clients more effectively and provide an optimal learning environment for students.
 

SEN. LEAHY WINS $3.9 M FOR VLS, ISC TO CONTINUE ENVIRONMENTAL WORK IN CHINA

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) has rescued $3.9 million to continue the work of Vermont Law School's U.S.-China Partnership for Environmental Law and Vermont-based Institute for Sustainable Communities, helping to nurture the emergence of environmental advocacy in China.
 

EPA AWARDS VERMONT COALITION $34 MILLION CONTRACT TO ADVISE ON ENERGY STAR PROGRAM

The EPA has awarded three Vermont groups, including Vermont Law School's Institute for Energy and the Environment (IEE), a $34 million contract to provide technical, analytical and outreach assistance to the national ENERGY STAR program in the commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors.
 

U.S.-CHINA PARTNERSHIP RECEIVES GRANT TO PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTAL, PUBLIC HEALTH

January 27, 2012

Vermont Law School's U.S.-China Partnership for Environmental Law, in collaboration with Sweden's Faculty of Law at Uppsala University, recently received a $40,000 grant to fund a joint conference with Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China, in September.
